Scrapbook Remix, the class!

For the last few months I have been looking for inspiration online for the ton of layouts I am behind in.  Layouts are my first love of crafting and I took a side trip with mini books for awhile.  Though there are many scrappers out there doing youtube and blogs on layouts, I just connected with the style of Shimelle at Shimelle.com.  She has a weekly video called adventures-of-glitter-girl.  So between her blog and her videos, I realized her style is the inspriation I have been searching for.  Starting this week for 4 weeks I am in a class of hers found here.  So far I have received 3 prompts and managed to do 3 layouts to correspond.  The layout below is from prompt 2 using the "B" sides of papers.  I am such a collector of papers and have now been using what I like to call a ton, so much so that I have ordered more paper this last week.  I know, its an addiction, but I like it.

Another great part of this online class is I am using papers in a way I thought I never would.  When working on this layout my husband asked "are you feeling ok, you are using pink?".  Yup, what can I say, I am evolving in my craft, but I am loving every minute of it.  I am hoping to post a few more of layouts from this class so look for them (but not too hard).

Starburst Challenge

I know, I know, it's been forever.  But life happens, summer happened.  We had such a nice summer that in 4 months I lived in shorts everyday but 3.  But now I'm back, not sure for how long, but back none the same.  Anyhow, Kathryn posted a challenge on her blog here, starburst challenge, and I do love a challenge. I am not one to do layouts of my boys, by their request but thought this was safe as it is more about the scenery.  This was difficult for me to do as I wanted so much to add more embellishments but as this is for Kiefer's (my youngest son) album on his summer in Equador, I felt I needed to keep it simple.  I still really like the way it turned out though.  I want to thank Kathryn for the inspiration by starting this challenge and all of her videos.  I have only a bazillion pictures that either Kiefer took or others of his group took and I need all the inspiration I can get.

Travel Mini for Madalena

A friend of mine, Madalena, gave me some ancient file boxes from the lawyers firm she works at.  I put one to good use for her.  I used the box to make a faux travel trunk and the ledger book to make a mini inside for her trip to Portugal.  I used G45 On the Boardwalk paper throughout, alas I had no Mediterranean papers.  The following 2 pictures are of the trunk.

Next are some random pictures of the inside pages, there were too many to post them all.  The pages are made of paper bags using a design of Kathy Orta's and I used the FTPT stack the deck binding system.

The inside back cover has a beautiful postcard I received in a swap from my friend Kimi, thanks Kimi, it is perfect in here.

Ramblings and My Page Challenge

Let me start this off by letting everyone know, I live.  I have been scrapping still but my main passion this year has been catching up on my 12x12 layouts.  Most of these consist of pictures of my boys (they will always be my boys, even though they are no longer even teenagers).  Long ago both boys requested that I do not publish pages of them, they love my scrapping but once out there on the net, always on the net.  So out of respect to them I do not post any of my layouts on my blog.  This leaves only challenges, swaps and miscellaneous projects.  So to all those that think I have wavered in my craft, I am still scrapping, well, not as much now that it is not winter, but still..........

I am still plugging along at the page challenges over at SC and have done one page each of my 2 minis with the latest challenge.  First I have to say this was harder for me this time as I am not a Madonna fan.  Let me explain, the challenge was "Material World".  I was never a material girl in a material world.  I do not scrap with fabrics etc and this was a thinker for me.  Anyhow, my first page has burlap and twill ribbon, both a material product.

My second page all I could come up with was some seam binding ribbon for a fabric.

I am enjoying this challenge but it is very difficult to pick up and continues every couple weeks or so, have to find the mini mojo again, so a real challenge.  Love it!

Page Challenge

Wow I sure am slow at updating my blog lately.  I have been scrapping still, but with spring here for now, I have been walking the dog, cleaning the yard and just being outdoors.  Anyhow the new challenge over at scrapping carolina was to use 2 decorative borders on your pages.  I did one of each of my albums using this challenge.  For the 8x8 mini I used 2 different Martha Stewart punches, a picket fence and the scallop.

For the 6x6 I used a notebook punch and a Tim Holtz on the edge die for the tab.
I hope you check into the challenges at SC and other places,  many to choose from, lots of fun to get your creativity jump started.

My 6x6 Challenge Mini

Just like my 8x8 page challenges from March 4th, I decided to try my hand at a grunge 6x6 masculine version.  So I did the first challenge of a pocket and a flip.

The next 2 pages were based on a tic tac toe board, you had to pick a row and do what was in that row for your page.  The first page was the page itself, a diecut and glimmer spray.  I used Medival Gold from Lindy's Stamp Gang with gear masks for this challenge.

The next page the row included the page, a button and an embossing of some sort.  I used a Tim Holtz texture fade and embossed one of my favourite images, Umbrella Man.

Now anther week and we will see where this mini progresses to.  Thanks for looking.  Please if you are looking for some fun, check out scrappingcarolina.ning.com.

Celebrate Family

This is a layout that is dear to my heart as it is a picture of my brother and I.  A couple of years ago we saw each other at a family wedding which I had no idea he was travelling to attend, so it was great catching up with him as we very rarely see each other due to life and distance (once every couple years or so).  The layout is based on a sketch that you can find at www.scrappingcarolina.ning.com.  The requirements were to use the sketch and the a colour palette of green to celebrate March and St. Patty's Day.  This first picture shows the sketch in my layout quite well.
Instead of 2  length wise columns I chose to make them into 6 thinner banner pieces.  The wider column behind the picture is replaced by an embossed glassine envelope given to me by a friend, thanks Tamara.  The width wise column from the sketch is seen here by my use of a wide lace.  Interpreting sketches to suit your own creativity is a great jumping off point for many of my layouts.  Now here is the finished layout with all its embellishments.
I added the letters to the ends of the banner to read "family" and also added some WOC mini roses and leaves along with a bird cage and bird.  The tag in the envelope houses my journalling about the day.  Thanks for looking and please come check out Tamara's site and see what other challenges she might have in store for us.

Yet Another Challenge

Good morning everybody.  I have been busy in the cave aka my scrap room this last month.  I managed to finish off my 29 layouts in 29 days, and make a travel mini for my youngest son for his trip this summer.  Now on to other news.  There is a new ning site that is in my opinion going to be a nice place to meet friends and hang out.  So everyone, please go check out the scrappingcarolina.com .  Tamara, the site owner has come up with a challenge to get her site going and it had me up until after midnight the night she posted it.  Here it is,  only being the rebel I am, I made mine 8x8 as I have a great pad of paper, Prima Londonerry I am using for this.

"What's In Your Pocket" Challenge
This challenge will be a first in a series of 7x7 page challenges.  When finished, you will have a completed 7x7 mini album.  So, what is your style?...Grunge, Vintage, Shabby Chic?
The Challenge - Create a 7x7 page layout that will include a pocket & tag on one side and a pge with a flap on the other.  Please feel free to use other goodies on your page such as journaling, photos, ephemera.  Let your imagination run wild.
This will be a two week challenge so you have until Friday, March 16th to complete your pages and post your pics.

The only thing that bothers me about this challenge is I have to wait 2 weeks to find out the criteria for my next pages, LOL!!!

Scrappybowl the finale

This is the last of the challenges I am entering in.  The challenge was to do layers as football players wear many layers.  This one was the easiest for me as I love layering in my scrapping.  I hope all of you enjoyed my renditions of Kathryns challenges, thanks again Kathryn for the great day on Sunday.

There are many layers of paper, flowers, butterflies and the tag in the corner.  The upper corner has a little cameo to finish off that side of the page.

Scrappybowl Challenges the sequel

First I have to thank Kathryn of Kathrynscraps.com for these challenges that are making me think.  I love a good scrappy challenge.  This one, which was for the 4th quarter was to use a flag or pennant in your layout.  I immediately thought of school and this picture of our niece was perfect for it.

Challenges, Many , Many of them

Wow, Have I been a bad blogger.  I have been busy though.  2012 brought many scrapbook challanges to conquer.  The first one was a while back a friend of mine (Hi Glynis) sent me some 9x12 envelopes.  The challenge, to design a mini page with them. This is what I came up with, the finished page once folded is 4x7.    The first 3 pictures are one page assembly.

There are 5 page assemblys all together to make up the mini.  Here are a couple more of the pages.
